Athena Protocol

Description: Jessie Archer is a member of the Athena Protocol, an elite organization of female spies who enact vigilante justice around the world. Athena operatives are never supposed to shoot to kill—so when Jessie can’t stop herself from pulling the trigger, she gets kicked out of the organization, right before a huge mission to take down a human trafficker in Belgrade.   Jessie needs to right her wrong and prove herself, so she starts her own investigation into the trafficking. But going rogue means she has no one to watch her back as she delves into the horrors she uncovers. Meanwhile, her former teammates have been ordered to bring her down. Jessie must face danger from all sides if she’s to complete her mission—and survive. Review: I have always been frustrated with the James Bond and Mission Impossible movie franchises especially with their reductive treatment of women who are either the femme fatale caricuture or an "agent" who is suppose to be capable an...

The Secret

Review: Maybe Someday by Colleen Hoover

Title: Maybe Someday Author: Colleen Hoover Published March 18th 2014 by Atria Books Genre: New Adult, Contemporary Goodreads | Amazon | _______________________________________  I didn't know what to expect when I started Maybe Someday. It's because I've heard some much and yet so little about it, for the various reviews I knew it was great but I also didn't really know anything about the story that went on. It was a leap of faith. I'm glad I took it because it paid off. The whole aspect of the book is that it combines musicality with prose. A new way of enjoying a story. I made sure I could listen to the songs at the same time I read the book so I could have the whole experience. And it added so much! It felt even more intense even though I tell you, the book was intense enough without the heartbreak of the songs. I am a fan of contemporary lit and I have pretty much reading anything and everything yet I didn't expect that particular thing wi...

Review: The Rules for Breaking by Ashley Elston

Title: The Rules for Breaking Author: Ashley Elston Expected publication: May 20th 2014 by Disney Hyperion Genre: YA contemporary, mystery, thriller Goodreads | Amazon | _________________________________________  Remember that very intense wild hog chase in The Rules for Disappearing? Well The Rules for Breaking is one big wild hog chasing scene. So to speak. I wasn't sure if I was going to remember quite a lot about Anna's story but as soon as I started reading this everything came back to me and it took only a few pages to have me fully invested and super excited again. Ethan and Anna's relationship was as adorable and sweet as ever. And as much as I lose myself in a good mystery, Ethan and Anna's romance was a constant presence in my mind, they kept reminding me of the real power of love, which makes you being brave for the ones you care about. I am absolutely in love with these two and how mature their relationship is. This sequel had me...

Review: The Rules for Disappearing by Ashley Elston

Title: The Rules for Disappearing Author: Ashley Elston Published May 14th 2013 by Disney-Hyperion Genre: YA contemporary, mystery, thriller Goodreads | Amazon | ___________________________________ So I just realized I never posted my review of this book, which was one of my favorites last year. And since the sequel is coming up (and my review with it, spoiler: I loved it) I thought it was appropiate to post it now, so here it is.   I really enjoyed this one. For once the mysteries were kind of hard to deconstruct and the characters weren't half as whiny as I would have imagined for anyone in their situation. I liked the approach the author took regarding the witness protection program and how it can destroy people's lives and sometimes it doesn't seem worth to live a life like that. And especially how devastating it is for a seventeen year old girl, you can't help but root for Meg right away, hoping everything turns out fine. Now the romance was really...

Light and quick and yes, a bit naughty. I was incredibly excited to start this Superlatives series by Jennifer because I have had such a great time reading her comedy novels before. This time it was not the exception. You read the title and you have to expect that this book is going to be fun. And it certainly is a wild ride. Our main characters are Tia and Will. They are voted the school's biggest flirts, and this title is perfect for Tia, who is fun and playful and the kind of girl that c...

Review: A Walk In The Sun by Michelle Zink

Title. A Walk In The Sun  Author. Michelle Zink Expected publication: May 3rd 2016 by HarperTeen [ goodreads ] [  amazon  ] ___________________________________________ What I loved about A Walk In The Sun is that it transported me to another place, and I don't mean only to a hard-lived, sun-kissed farm; but to the thrill of being young and in love. It's the story about a girl with the weight of the world on her shoulders. Rose's mom just died and her dad is in such a depression that she has to take over all the chores at their farm, all by herself. That's how she meets Bodhi, the recently hired hand that's going to help her run the farm this summer. And that's where the similarities with those Harlequin novels you're thinking about, end because this is not a story about the rich daughter of the boss falling for the working class guy. This is more about finding love when (and where) you didn't expect it. A Walk In The Sun did a fantastic job at portrayin...
